Team Effort Allows 100 Families to Return Home After 2016 Floods.
Hammond, Louisiana – May 1, 2017. On August 12, 2016, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, was still recovering from the March floods when the rain came. Epic rain over several days forced area residents to leave the area with their homes under water. Tangi Village Apartments in Hammond, LA was particularly hard hit.
Affordable housing already faced a shortage before the floods. With the flooding, survivors were forced to evacuate, thus increasing the need for both affordable and temporary housing. Governor John Bel Edwards, along with HUD and the Louisiana Housing Corporation, created the Housing Heroes Initiative, in an attempt to increase affordable units in the area and manage skyrocketing rents.
The IDP Housing team was recognized as Housing Heroes by Governor Edwards, for their work mitigating the damage and substantially renovating 96 units at Tangi Village Apartments, a Project-Based Section 8 affordable Housing community
Mike McLeod, IDP Housing, stated, “I would want everyone to know this was a total TEAM effort and RED was a major contributor to how well it all went.
Thanks to this team effort, nearly 100 families were able to return to their homes in a short period.”
Congratulations to the IDP Housing, LP team for their work.
